ENT OPD
Earache, sore throat, nosebleeds, foreign bodies and dental pain.
- Acute sinusitisUnder 10 days is almost always a cold. Antibiotics help little. Check the eyes every time.
- Dental pain and dental infectionToothache is fixed by a dentist, not antibiotics. Look under the tongue and check mouth opening for spreading infection.
- EaracheMedia is a bulging drum after a cold; externa is a painful, swollen canal. Most otitis media needs no antibiotic; externa needs drops and a dry ear.
- Foreign bodies in the ear and noseOne or two good attempts, then ENT. Button batteries are an emergency. Try the "parent's kiss" for the nose.
- Nosebleed (epistaxis)Sit forward and pinch the soft part of the nose for 15 minutes by the clock. Most bleeds are anterior and stop with pressure or cautery.
- Sore throatMost are viral. Use FeverPAIN or Centor, look for a quinsy, never examine a drooling child, and treat strep throat properly to prevent rheumatic fever.
