How to get a house job in Pakistan

Applications open through provincial or hospital portals after final-year results. Merit, documents and timing matter. Choose a hospital for training and workload, not only the name.

When to apply

House job inductions usually open after final professional exam results. Provinces and major teaching hospitals announce dates on their websites and social media. Check regularly and don't miss deadlines.

The process

  1. Get your final-year result and transcript.
  2. Apply for PMDC provisional registration.
  3. Complete the online application on the provincial or hospital portal.
  4. Choose your hospitals and specialties in order of preference.
  5. Wait for the merit list and induction notice.

Merit is usually based on MBBS marks, with rules varying by province and institution.

Documents

  • MBBS final result and transcripts.
  • PMDC provisional registration.
  • CNIC and domicile.
  • Photographs.
  • Character certificate and other documents the notice lists.

Choosing a hospital

Think about:

  • Teaching quality and exposure to procedures.
  • Workload and the culture of the units.
  • Whether it is recognised for FCPS training if you plan to continue there.
  • Distance from home and accommodation.
  • Stipend timing and reputation.

Talk to current house officers. They will tell you what the brochures don't.

Foreign graduates

Pakistani graduates of foreign medical schools must pass the PMDC National Registration Examination before they can register and work. See our NRE Step 1 guide.
